Sensory processing issues can develop for a variety of reasons. Do you have sensitivities to the feel of some fabrics, to tags in your clothing or the tightness of clothing against your skin? Do you react strongly to lighting, finding bright lighting intolerable? Does the sound of someone chewing make you angry? Does background noise completely distract you and make it impossible to concentrate? Do certain smells completely disgust you and make a place intolerable? Have you been accused of being unreasonably picky about tastes and textures of foods?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be dealing with sensory processing sensitivity. The approaches that work well to help calm this sensitivity are body oriented; Exposure Therapy, Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) and Focus Therapy.
I have been trained and use SSP and Focus Therapy (descriptions for each located under the Services/Sensory Processing tab at the top of the page). Each of these approaches are short-term and can be practiced at home.
